Lamps
Lamps bring life to indoor tanning equipment. Powered by a ballast, they generate the UVA and UVB that helps foster a tan. Tanning lamps come in various shapes and sizes to be used in different applications, as specified by the manufacturer. Light therapy is also becoming more popular – particularly with the use of red and blue lamps – which are said to promote skin and health benefits. In tanning, performance should not be determined solely by whether the lamps are “hot” or within the suggested hours of lamp life. Salon owners should monitor their lamps carefully, using a meter to measure output and help determine when to change the lamps.
