The Vitamin D Council, a nonprofit 501(c)(3) educational corporation, recently launched a blog. The online platform will provide insights and briefings on the latest vitamin D research and findings. Featured writers include activist and Executive Director of the Vitamin D Council, Dr. John Cannell, as well as vitamin D epidemiologist and founder of the nonprofit SUNARC, Dr. William Grant.

“The blog will be a unique community and forum for people interested in up-to-date research on vitamin D,” Cannell explains. In years past, he would share his writings on vitamin D via an e-mail newsletter. The blog will allow Cannell and future authors an easier, more-efficient method to disseminate writings on vitamin D, as compared to the old newsletter. The Vitamin D Council hopes to add more writers in the future.

Vitamin D enthusiasts will also have access to a comment section for members, allowing them to engage in interesting discussions. In addition, an “ask the expert” form will give them priority status in submitting questions to the vitamin D Council staff.

As a nonprofit, the organization has decided to go with a paid-dues membership model for admittance to the blog and site perks. Funds will go toward core operations and programs. The current membership options are:

• Monthly - $5/month

• Annual - $50/year

• Lifetime - $1,000/one-time fee

Current unpaid subscribers to the group’s e-newsletter will continue to receive an e-mail update one to two times per month. However, it will only contain a brief tease of the blog content posted on the site – with the exception of one or two articles that will still be available to non-members.

Cannell formed the Vitamin D Council in 2003 to take on the vitamin D deficiency epidemic. The blog can be found at http://blog.vitamindcouncil.org/.
