This week Nova Scotia became the first Canadian province to begin the implementation of an indoor tanning ban for customers under the age of 19. Enforcement of the Tanning Bed Act will be rolled out in stages, starting with a dissemination of information to salon owners and their customers. Also on the agenda is the establishment of a toll-free “hotline” number for citizens to call and report possible violations. Official inspections are slated to begin later this year – the maximum penalties include fines of $10,000 and a two-year closure for repeat offenders.
