Tanning Salon Hosts Breast Cancer Research Fundraiser

A Danville, Ill.-based tanning salon is changing things up this year in its efforts to support breast cancer research. Although October is technically dubbed “Breast Cancer Awareness Month,” Sunsational Tan finds charitable causes to be a year-round focus. Some of its past events have included a canned-food drive for a local pantry and a fan drive for low-income seniors. While those promotions involved an exchange of UV tanning for donations, this weekend’s focus will be sunless services.

Owner Diane Short hopes “to be working nonstop” through the event, which runs Thursday through Saturday. The festivities will include a raffle, refreshments and product launch, as well as $10 spray tans with the proceeds going toward the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Research organization.

In her five years owning the salon, Short has always prioritized giving back to the community. This month’s cause hits close to home for her, though, as numerous friends and relatives have fought the disease.

Beyond the fundraising, salon staff urge the women in their lives – including customers – to get their annual mammograms to help aid in detection and prevention.
