A couple that owns several Tanworld salons in Minnesota is saving the day for many tanners with their Mason City, Iowa, location. Recently a former Mason City competitor, Florida Sun Tanning, closed abruptly, leaving surprised customers – some of whom had just purchased tanning packages.
The owners of both salons worked together on a deal for Tanworld to honor the unused minutes of Florida Sun Tanning customers. A representative from the Mason City Chamber of Commerce helped with the arrangements.
The week of the closure, the local newspaper printed a “letter to the editor” from Florida Sun’s owners. The couple apologized for the unexpected closure, stating that they were not aware that a bank foreclosure would occur so quickly. After three years in the business, they’ve filed for bankruptcy.
Kudos to Tanworld owners John and Wendy Fell for helping salvage what could have been a very negative situation for the industry and its customers. Although the Fells stand to gain new customers, they certainly do so at an initial loss by honoring services for which they didn’t receive payment.
Props also to Florida Sun’s former owners, who stuck around to clean up the mess – being forthright immediately and partnering with a former competitor for the good of their customers.
