Gwyneth Paltrow, the wife of Coldplay’s Chris Martin and returning actress in the most recent installment of the Iron Man movie series, recently brought the dangers of deficient vitamin D – and UV light – to the forefront.

A badly broken bone a few years back was the first clue, which led to a bone scan and the discovery of a bone mineral density abnormality known as osteopenia.

Paltrow’s medical advisors reported the fair-skinned celebrity tested with the lowest vitamin D levels they’d seen in their practice. The prescription? A recommendation to soak up some sun and begin supplementing prescription-strength vitamin D.

The 30-something star has since gotten her D-levels up to snuff.
