Salon owners are quickly realizing that when it comes to the tan tax, the IRS isn’t making house calls to ensure that each salon is aware of the new law nor equipped to collect and report it. This burden falls to individual business owners.

Last week, however, the IRS did release regulations to provide guidance regarding the indoor tanning excise tax. This includes definitions that help identify which services and providers are targeted, as well as clarification on tricky scenarios such as the sale of gift cards, and bundled packages that combine UV and non-UV services.
