Yesterday, a bill sponsored by Sen. Rhoda E. Perry was passed unanimously in the Rhode Island Senate. The legislation calls for a usage ban of professional tanning facilities for those customers under the age of 18, unless the minor presents a doctor’s prescription for UV exposure.

The House is the bill’s next stop. In the event that the measure becomes law, it would become effective the first day of 2011. As of press time, approximately 30 states have some level of legal restriction against teen tanning.
