Massachusetts Advances Teen Tanning Restrictions

Sen. James Timilty, a thorn in the side of Boston’s indoor tanning community, has now seen the anti-tanning legislation initiated at his hand make its way through the Massachusetts Senate.

Timilty’s originally proposed bill did undergo some revision, though, such as removing a provision that tanning salons couldn’t even employ workers under the age of 18.

The version that made it through the Senate calls for 16- and 17-year-olds to have written permission from a parent to tan, while banning the services for those under the age of 16.

Timilty has long been an advocate of increasing industry regulations, based on his alleged concerns about health risks.
