Organizations in Ontario, Canada, are building momentum in their quest to ban customers under the age of 18 from using UV equipment at area tanning businesses.

The Canadian Cancer Society has been active in its efforts to elicit government involvement regarding restrictions on teen tanning. The group joins the likes of Cancer Care Ontario and the Canadian Dermatology Association, who are leading the charge. They hope to accomplish the implementation of a teen tan ban such as exists in parts of Australia, as well as France, Germany and Scotland.

The Porcupine Health Unit’s Board of Health is the latest public supporter of an Ontario under-18 tanning ban. It’s launching a postcard campaign – gathering signatures and sending them to the Minister of Health Promotion. The Health Unit has numerous offices across the region to help fulfill its campaign goals.
