Tan Tax Update – Health Care Legislation Headed for a Vote?

Healthcare reform legislation is still pending before the Congress, so this means the Tan Tax is still very much in play. The Democratic leaders in the House of Representatives are still actively trying to secure the 216 vote majority necessary to pass the Senate version of the bill. The bill that was passed by the Senate has the tan tax included and, if that bill passes the House of Representatives, the tan tax will become law. A vote is anticipated to occur by week’s end.

The good news is that the Democrats still do not have the votes necessary to pass the bill or they would have already acted. However, the possibility of this scenario is still very real. The president of the United States is actively lobbying House members to rally support for the Senate bill. Please urge everyone to continue to call, write and use www.stopthetantax.com to send e-mails to Congress urging opposition to the regressive tan tax. The ITA recommends using the contact information on the Web link to make a personal call to your congressman and senator, calling your congressman first because the House of Representatives is where the next vote takes place.
