New Jobs Bill Could Help Tanning Salons

A new bill offering tax breaks in the neighborhood of $18 billion could help tanning salon owners bring in new hires. The jobs bill is particularly targeted to aid small-business owners who may be considering bringing in (or are really feeling the need for) additional employees. The resulting tax-related benefits could make the decision easier.

One of the stipulations of the bill is that it encourages bringing on employees who have been jobless for more than two months. In addition to earning a specific exemption, the employer would also receive a $1,000 credit for new hires that stay with the company at least one year.

President Obama acknowledges that the bill – while estimated to help create a quarter of a million positions in 2010 – was not intended to be a cure-all to remedy the massive unemployment that resulted from the country’s recent economic challenges. Those unemployment figures hover around the 8 million mark. Instead, the new jobs bill is merely seen as a beginning step in the government’s efforts to boost U.S. employment numbers.
