While congressional leaders and President Obama continue to remain silent in response to C-SPAN’s request to let cameras in on health care negotiations, www.letthecamerasin.com is gaining tremendous momentum, attracting more than 14,000 signatures in just 24 hours. The Facebook fan page has more than 12,000 followers as of press time. American Future Fund, which launched the Web site, will deliver the signed petitions to congressional leaders next week.
Negotiations between congressional leadership and the president continued yesterday with only snippets being reported back to the media after the fact. Matt Drudge reports today that President Obama has permitted only one hour of televised health care coverage in spite of his repeated promise to maintain transparency. On Bill Press’ radio show, C-SPAN Chairman Brian Lamb said, “The American people pay for all of this that goes on in this town and if we pay for something and it’s the public’s business, we ought to be able to see how it’s done. It’s just that simple.”
American Future Fund President Sandy Greiner adds, “It’s obvious from all the traffic on the Web site that the American people want to know what’s going on in Washington. By this time tomorrow, I believe we will be up to 25,000 signers, and Congress and the president will have to respond. It’s time for transparency to be part of this health care reform process. It’s time to let the cameras in.”
