An electrical short is reportedly the cause of a fire that recently destroyed a Nebraska tanning salon – and a shortage of water may have contributed to firefighters’ inability to save the business.

The fire personnel were said to have faced many challenges – architectural style and icy conditions among them. Thought to have originated in a beauty parlor, the fire then spread through the connecting businesses, five total of which were heavily damaged. Beyond Body Work Massage Therapy and Tanning Salon was one of the downtown North Bend fixtures that was impacted. The businesses were said to have “continuous ceilings,” which made it difficult to stop the raging flames.

More than a dozen fire crews from surrounding areas pitched in to battle the blaze, with additional units ready to join in. Despite aerial trucks, tankers that hauled in water and the use of a hydrant, water was still in short supply for the enormity of the fire.

The small community, including several neighboring business owners, banded together to bring the firefighters food and beverages throughout the ordeal. Despite the tragedy, the tight-knit town is optimistic that the businesses – and community – will be restored.
