A recent audit of the Australian tanning industry indicates that the number of tanning salons has dropped in the past three years.

In Australian capital cities, salons dropped by almost a third since 2006. The largest drop (51 percent) was in Melbourne.

The Age reports that experts speculate the fall is due to increased awareness of indoor tanning following the death of Clare Oliver as well as tougher legislation.
