Amidst controversy, President Obama delivered an 18-minute speech via Internet broadcast to children Tuesday.
The White House released the full speech Monday, as many conservative parents feared the address would be politically charged. However, the speech focused on encouraging students to work hard and stressed the importance of staying in school and obtaining an education to be successful—as individuals and as a country.
In the end, it was up to each school’s officials whether the speech was viewed by its students.
