Middlesbrough, England has implemented salon “checks,” in which Middlesbrough Council environmental health officers compare facilities with new national guidance produced by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) on the safe operation and use of tanning equipment, according to the Gazette Live.
The guidance advises that:
- Salons be staffed at all operating times
- Salons only be used by persons over 18 years of age
Of the 27 salons in the town, all are staffed at all operating times, 12 meet the new HSE guidance regarding the minimum age for tanners.
