Recent research suggests that melanoma, the deadliest form of skin cancer, may be treatable with an existing drug already licensed for treatment of breast tumors.
According to the Times Online, U.S. scientists are planning a clinical trial of the drug, known as lapatinib or Tyverb, in patients with certain types of malignant melanoma.
If the trial is successful, it would offer a new means of treating about 20 percent of malignant melanoma cases.
