The number of initial jobless claims rose unexpectedly by 15,000 Americans, surprising economists, whom had expected it to drop by more than 10,000 claims.
Experts cited the “stressed” labor market for the climb.
Two states reported drops in initial claims: California, falling by more than 5,000 claims, and Michigan, dipping by nearly 1,500 claims.
