Research by Cancer Research UK, on behalf of the Department for Public Health and Health Professions, found that 8.2 percent of children age 11 to 17 in Wales had used indoor tanning equipment at least once. That includes one in five girls.
The study also found that about 40 percent of children were unsupervised when using tanning equipment—generally at a gym, leisure center, tanning salon or beauty salon—and only half said they had received any information regarding the harm that improper tanning bed us can cause.
