Sentenced to the max punishment of 150 years in prison by a federal judge on June 30, Madoff’s attorneys announced July 9 that he would serve his time and not file an appeal. Madoff’s attorney’s stated that an appeal would at best reduce his sentence to a life sentence.
Madoff has been held in the Metropolitan Correctional Center in lower Manhattan since his arrest in March, and will most likely be transferred to a medium-security federal prison.
