Is Web Video The New Cable?

Nearly one fifth of all Internet users watch an online video every day, according to a recent survey, and the result makes one wonder if online video may someday replace cable.

The study, conducted by the Pew Research Center’s Internet and American Life Project, shows that 19 percent of Web users watch video every day, up from 8 percent three years ago. Though men watch more videos than women, the gap is closing. Sixty-five percent of men watch online videos, compared to 59 percent of women.

Watching online video is even more common than checking social networks. Sixty-two percent of adult Web users watch online videos, compared to 46 percent who have a social networking presence.
