British medical experts claim that unsafe tanning practices are at the root of the high skin-cancer incidence in Scotland, pointing to a YouGov survey of more than 1,000 Scots that found one in five respondents had participated in “binge” tanning, according to The Herald.
In addition, four in 10 respondents said they had tried tanning with substances not approved by medical experts and four in 10 had experienced blistered or peeling skin after spending too long in the sun.
