Vitamin D and fish oil are set to be tested in a large, government-sponsored study to assess whether either nutrient can lower the risk of cancer, heart disease or stroke, according to the Associated Press (AP).
The AP news piece also notes that this study will be one of the first big nutrition studies to target a specific racial group—blacks will comprise one-quarter of the participants.
The $20 million study will be sponsored by the National Cancer Institute, along with the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute and other federal agencies.
