A new study from the University of Southern California’s Center for the Digital Future reveals that Americans are spending more time in front of the computer online than they are with their families.

Twenty-eight percent of the study’s participants owned up to spending less time with their families than they have in the past. That number is up from 11 percent in 2006.

Similarly, 44 percent of responders said they were sometimes or often ignored because another member of the household spends too much time online. Forty-eight percent said they were ignored because others spend too much time watching TV.

Americans now spend an average of 17 hours per week online, which is the longest amount of time since researchers have started tracking it.
