A new survey by the National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB) shows that, for the first time since last year, small-business owners are feeling hopeful that the economy will improve.

According to CNNMoney, the NFIB's monthly "optimism index" bumped up to 86.8 from 81 in April's reading (which was the second lowest rating in the survey's 35-year history). Large gains were also seen in business owners’ expectations that the overall economy and their company's sales will get better in the next three to six months.
