According to a government report, sales at U.S. retailers fell for the second straight month in April.

The Commerce Department said total retail sales slipped 0.4 percent last month, after falling by 1.3 percent in March, reports Reuters—even though economists had expected retail sales to be flat in April. While the rate of decline slowed from March to April, the news has still disappointed expectations of an end to the recession.
