Obama has revealed his comprehensive plan to run a more energy-efficient economy by cutting the nation’s dependence on oil.
The plan calls for new fuel and emissions standards for the auto industry that will equate to removing 177 million smog-producing cars from the streets over about the next 7 years.
The plan standardizes requirements federally, meaning that each state will not have to fund and monitor separate values for meeting the requirements.
The plan must still be cleared by the Environmental Protection Agency and the Transportation Department, and so far the auto industry is supportive of it.
