The U.S.’s two largest drug-store chains are gearing up for a rush on hand sanitizers, face masks, pharmaceuticals and other health products as a result of recent news of swine flu, Bloomberg News reports. CVS Caremark Corp. and Walgreen Co. are making sure they’re fully stocked with personal-hygiene products and antiviral drugs, such as Tamiflu, as the new virus spreads around the world. Walgreen is also coordinating with its in-store clinics.
While there is no vaccine for the virus, U.S. Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano said 25 percent of antiviral drugs are being released from U.S. stockpiles. The country has 50 million treatments in all.
