Just about everyone is looking for ways to save money these days, and Peter Walsh, host of “Oprah & Friends,” suggests seven ways to do just that—while also de-cluttering your home and helping others in need. Among his suggestions are:

Re-sell the things you don’t use. Designer-label clothing and shoes, musical instruments, collectibles, sporting goods and even car parts can all generate a good amount of money on online auction sites or in consignment stores.

Get rid of unwanted subscriptions. Magazines and catalogs tend to pile up quickly, so enlist the help of the family to collect every magazine and catalog you can find in the house, gather them in one room and arrange them into piles—one pile “to keep” and one “to get rid of.” Then, immediately cancel the subscriptions online or by phone.

Organize a neighborhood DVD library. This way, instead of going to the movies, everyone in the neighborhood can borrow from each other. You’ll save the price of tickets and expensive snacks—and you’ll make friends with your neighbors.
