Unless you’re Wal-Mart or an uber-trendy brand such as Apple, the promise of even a slight bump in holiday sales is slowly turning into a tough reality.
The official numbers have yet to be released, but forecasts look grim. Amped up unemployment going into the holiday season, along with penny-pinching consumers, foretell sales losses of about 1 percent for the month of December—a stark number considering many retailers expect 50 percent of sales to occur during the months of November and December.
