A new study indicates that men may not be getting as much vitamin D as they did in the past; however, the reasons for the decline aren't clear. The study, published in the December issue of the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, does note that men are drinking less milk and taking more steps to protect themselves from the sun than they did in the late ’80s and early '90s.

WebMD reports that men's vitamin D levels have declined between seven percent and 12 percent over the past 15 to 20 years. These percentages are based on data from National Health and Nutrition Examination Surveys, which researchers used to compare serum vitamin D levels in 18,000 participants from 1988-1994 with those of 21,000 participants from 2000-2004.
