A new law in Maryland, requiring minors to have parental permission to tan, went into effect today, Oct. 1. Under the law, a parent or legal guardian must enter the tanning salon with the teen and sign a permission slip in front of the business owner or store employee. Salon operators also are required to check the age of people who are tanning. Violations will incur fines of up to $1,000.
