The hearing on HB 250, which proposes a 6-percent tax on tanning services in Maryland, is set for Wednesday, March 12 in front of the Ways and Means Committee. If you act now, it’s not too late to take advantage of the pre-formatted letters of opposition available through the Indoor Tanning Association.

There are two letters—one for clients and one for salon owners. A copy of the letter you choose will be e-mailed to the delegates and senator in your district as well as to the governor. If your salon and home are in different districts, you can send e-mail letters from both for wider coverage.

After you send the e-mail letter, be sure to look for a confirmation notice sent to your inbox. It may get caught in your spam folder, so please be on the lookout. If you do not send the response requested in that confirmation e-mail, your letter of opposition will not be sent to the appropriate people.

This type of grassroot e-mail campaign has been very effective in combating anti-tanning legislation … and Maryland salon owners have the opportunity to see that level of effectiveness firsthand.
