Sandy Saggio, owner of Manchester, Conn.-based Ultra Sun & Body LCC, has teamed up with the American Heart Association to help educate people—especially women—about heart disease by selling red dress pins and memory cards at the salon’s two locations as part of the Go Red For Women Campaign.
This sale will run through the end of February, and Saggio also plans to raffle a tanning package to raise additional money and create awareness for this important cause. Devoted Creations has stepped in to assist Saggio, and is contributing T-shirts and tanning products. All proceeds from the sale of Devoted Creations lotions, packettes and shirts will be donated to the AHA.
“Fourteen years ago, my mother passed away due to heart disease—but it wasn’t until I had my own heart problems that I realized something needed to be done,” Saggio says. “When I started this mission, I realized a few things—one, I’m not Oprah Winfrey and two, it takes a army to build a village. So when I do this again next year, I’m going to start sooner and hopefully make the success of The Go Red Campaign even bigger.”
Heart disease is the No. 1 killer of American women; in fact, cardiovascular disease causes one in every 2.6 female deaths. For more information on how to support the Go Red Campaign, click here.
