Salon operators in Maryland now have two anti-tanning bills to fight this year. HB 887 was introduced by 17 delegates on Feb. 9. The bill seeks to require persons to obtain a license from the Secretary of the Environment to operate a tanning facility; require a separate license for each tanning facility; require the Secretary to issue licenses and adopt regulations concerning tanning facilities; provide for the scope of a license to operate a tanning facility; provide for the term, renewal and display of licenses for tanning facilities, etc.
SB 964 was introduced by Sen. Jamie Raskin (D) on Feb. 28 and cross-filed with HB 887. The proposed bill contains the same verbiage as HB 887.
