Utah’s HB 419 Fails—For Now

03/06/2009

In Utah, HB 419 failed to advance past the House Health and Human Services Committee last week—however, the committee voted 4-2 to reconsider the bill this summer after further studying the issue behind it.

The bill, sponsored by Rep. Melvin R. Brown, R-Coalville, sought to impose a 10-percent tax on tanning salon service to fund melanoma research (the money would be administered by the Utah Department of Health in the form of grants).
