Unemployment Highest in 26 Years, Job Losses Down

Job losses were down in August compared to July, but unemployment overall jumped to the highest rate since 1983, reports CNNMoney.

August saw 216,000 fewer jobs, which is the fewest lost jobs since this time last year, and down from the 276,000 jobs lost in July.

In total, 6.9 million jobs have been lost since 2008 and the unemployment rate sits at 9.7 percent.
