Researchers Say Teens Need To Increase Vitamin D Intake

09/16/2008

A study conducted by researchers from the American University of Beirut Medical Center in Lebanon (published in the Journal of Clinical Endocrinology & Metabolism) suggests that vitamin D recommendations for older children should be 10 times higher than the current recommended amount.

The recommended amount now is 200 IUs; however, researchers say that, because of rapid skeletal growth during teen years, 2,000 IUs are needed.
