Study: Vit. D May Increase Cancer Survival

10/08/2009

Research indicates that individuals with higher levels of UVR-induced vitamin D were 50 percent more likely to survive after being diagnosed with colon cancer than those with low levels. Another study found that skin-cancer patients who had high levels of vitamin D when diagnosed were more likely to have thinner tumors.

According to reports in the Telegraph, Sara Hiom, from Cancer Research UK, says “the studies support the theory that higher levels of vitamin D can improve the chance of surviving cancer” and that the key is to find a balance between time spent in the sun and the level of vitamin D needed for good health.
