New Study Contradicts Previous Vitamin D, Breast Cancer Findings

09/12/2008

A new study contradicts findings regarding the link between vitamin D and breast cancer, suggesting that 25-hydroxyvitamin D has no preventative effect on breast cancer.

The Women’s Health Initiative study, involving more than 36,000 postmenopausal women, found a strong correlation between vitamin D levels, high body mass index (BMI) and low physical activity (the latter two are recognized breast-cancer risk factors). However, they found no association between vitamin D levels and breast-cancer risk after adjusting for BMI and physical activity.
