Maryland HB 1358 Amendment

HB 1358—which sought to require that Maryland tanning clients under 18 either provide a medical prescription from a physician in order to tan or be accompanied by a parent or guardian every time they use a tanning bed—has been amended. The amended version only would require parental consent for all tanners under age 18.

The original version of the bill would have been the nation's toughest ban on teens and tanning beds. The amended version was created during the bill’s Feb. 27 hearing before the House of Delegates Economic Matters Committee. House members call the amendment a compromise, and final approval is expected in the coming days.
