England to Crack Down on Teen Tanning?

11/16/2009

England – where the lack of sunshine often prompts residents to tan indoors – is the latest country to scrutinize teen tanning. Research there suggests “increased risk” of health concerns for 11- to 17-year-olds who use “sunbeds,” a ban of which would affect an estimated quarter of a million youngsters.

One potentially good outcome is the possibility of closing salons that are unsupervised, as well as coin-operated units. This trend is already underway in portions of the U.K., as Scotland has legislation in place, and Wales is working on it.

Visit the source for more information, including specific numbers of young tanners as reported in the research.
