Expo Photos: More from the Heartland

Not only do the indoor tanning specialists at Heartland have everything a salon needs, they also put on an amazing series of educational expos each year. At the Kansas City show, I was in attendance as Stephen Underhill of SMU Consulting shared his insight during a keynote session on pricing tanning salon services. He also hosted a breakout session on the importance of upgrading equipment.

Stephen is well-known for his work in the industry, and also actively participates on TanToday.com. He doesn’t mince words when it comes to ideas for improving the industry. For instance, he advises tanning salons to follow a membership structure. After all, would a gym allow customers to purchase single sessions to use the equipment in its facility? Although there are salon owners who disagree with his ideas, one thing’s for sure; he will always stimulate a healthy discussion and challenge salon owners to examine their business practices.
