California’s Under-18 Ban Almost Final
By Rebecca Pray
It’s now official – California is one signature away from implementing a teen tan ban for customers younger than age 18. As I mentioned several weeks ago in a blog, SB 746, compliments of Sen. Ted Lieu, is on its way to Gov. Jerry Brown for final sign-off. Representatives from the California Indoor Tanning Trade Organization are trying to secure a meeting with the governor – along with representation from the Indoor Tanning Association – in the hopes of deterring the bill from being signed into law.
Outside of some very minor verbiage amendments, the measure all but sailed through the state’s Assembly and Senate voting processes. The deadline for the governor to act on the bill is October 10. If the bill becomes law, it will become effective on Jan. 1, 2012.
