Recently we posted some beginner’s info on high-pressure equipment. Leif Vasström from SUPRA® Brands Group sent me some tanning history to round things out. He says:

The first two high-pressure systems – The Dr. Original Müller Giant Sun, a 10 x 2000 watt HP system – were sold and installed in 1975 by Quarzlampenfabrik Dr. Müller in the Playboy mansion in Los Angeles and at their corporate headquarters in Chicago. They were flown in on the Playboy Bunny Jet.

In 1978, two additional units were installed at the Sundance Tanning Center in Beverly Hills, Calif., by Tia and Klaus Sheidenschnur.

The first UltraBronz tanning bed was installed by Barbro and Lars Anderson in New York City on Fifth Avenue in 1979.

Dr. Maximiliam Mutzhas built the first UVA-Tan units in Switzerland in 1978 with parts supplied by Quarzlampenfabrik Dr. Müller, and the first units in the United States were sold and installed in New York City and Los Angeles in 1980.

In conclusion, there is no disagreement that the development of the high-pressure tanning systems occurred in Germany.

Thanks for the facts, Leif! Visit www.supratechnologies.com for more info on Supra.
