Mystic Tan: Me, MyMyst And I
Danielle Maheux

My Tan, My Choice Mystic Tan, based in Farmers Branch, Texas, originally introduced the MyMyst System in late 2005, and the simple addition of single-use Tanning Myst™ mini-cartridges to the already-popular MagneTan™ technology of Mystic Tan booths has made MyMyst a popular option in salons nationwide. “In traditional sunless tanning booths, the salon owner dictates the customer’s experience because they use a reservoir drum of tanning solution,” says Ricky Croft, Mystic Tan’s vice president of business development. “With the MyMyst system, however, the customer has a choice. Add to that the user-friendly, forgiving technology of MagneTan, which polarizes the Tanning Myst so that the tanner’s body will attract the mist particles, and the MyMyst booth is truly the best way to create a streakfree, individual tan every time.” There are currently four Tanning Myst formula options—original and premium versions of both ClearMyst™, which goes on clear and darkens into a natural-looking tan in a few hours, and BronzMyst™, which provides instant color for an immediately noticeable tan. But the choices don’t stop there; tanners can further customize their experience by choosing from a range of additives and skincare treatments. “Right now we are working on a formulation developed especially for UV tanners that will help revitalize and hydrate the skin; an anti-aging complex that will act as a ‘spa in a bottle’; and an alpha hydroxy acid exfoliant that will dissolve dead skin cells while smoothing fine lines and wrinkles,” Croft says. “MyMyst has endless options as far as the types of treatments and applications that we will be able to provide.” My Style, My Price Tanners are not the only ones with a variety of choices when it comes to the MyMyst booth—Mystic Tan has been hard at work developing new styles and price-points to meet every salon owner’s need. “This is the first time we’ve ever done this at Mystic Tan. Usually we introduce entirely new models,” Croft says. “But because the MyMyst booth has caught on so well with consumers, we decided to keep that same technology and just change the look and cost.” In October, the MyMyst booths became available with three options: designer, classic or basic. The top-of-the-line price-point is the designer option, in which salon owners can choose to have their booth wrapped with a fully customized graphic to match their salon décor. The classic option features a middle-of-the-road price and replaces the original blue color of the booth with a sleeker, more high-tech gray shade. Finally, the basic option offers everything a salon owner needs at the lowest price. “For this last option, we decided that we wanted every salon to be able to offer Mystic Tan, and that the only way to make that a possibility would be to offer a price that is achievable for anyone, without sacrificing the high-quality of the Mystic Tan brand,” he says. Overall, Mystic Tan is committed to its motto of offering choice, and that has proven to be exactly what salon owners and tanners crave. “We are amazed that the internal branding of the MyMyst series has caught on so well with consumers,” Croft says. “People even ask for it by name because they know that this system will allow them to change their mind in an instant.”
