Dynamic Power Technology: Taking UV Output And Tanning To The Max

Danielle Maheux

When a tanner walks into a salon and selects a bed or standup, they generally aren’t thinking about the age of the lamps—or the effect of that age on the ultraviolet (UV) output. They simply expect to get a tan and assume the equipment they choose will provide them with the highest possible level of UV output to achieve that goal; however, because UV output can degrade throughout a lamp’s lifetime, that’s not always the case. That is why equipment manufacturer Ergoline decided to address the issue with a revolutionary new technology—Dynamic Power—which was debuted in the United States at the 2007 ITA Tanning World Expo.

Energy-Efficient & Consistent

Jonesboro, Ark.-based Ergoline, a division of JK Products & Services, Inc. introduced Dynamic Power technology for the new Prestige and Esprit bed series following a successful introduction in Europe earlier this year.

“As a world leader in UV technology, Ergoline felt there was a need to satisfy tanning clients who expect the maximum UV output each time they tan,” says Hans-Juergen Kreitz, CEO of JK North America. “Dynamic Power technology does just that, allowing the tanning equipment to deliver a consistent tan for the life of the lamp.”

The technology operates on a “smart-card” technology; basically, an electronic computer chip controls the energy output of electronic ballasts by monitoring lamp depreciation. As the lamp ages, and UV output decreases, Dynamic Power technology compensates to maintain the maximum UV level, delivering approximately 25-percent more output per watt of energy input.

As an added bonus, the energy-maximizing feature of Dynamic Power technology helps to extend overall lamp life. “The software-controlled power settings extend the lamp life of our 200-watt lamps by up to 1,200 hours at 100-percent output—which means that salon owners don’t need to change lamps as often,” Kreitz says.

Powerhouse Beds, Powerhouse Lamps

The basic technology was developed a few years ago, but has been perfected and renamed to coincide with the introduction of the Prestige and Esprit bed series’ to the industry. These equipment lines were chosen to be the first beds that utilize Dynamic Power technology because they are the most recent innovations to come from the company, designed to be tanning powerhouses with luxury features.

“These beds are our latest achievement, developed in Germany and created specifically with Dynamic Power technology in mind,” Kreitz says.

In addition to Dynamic Power technology, the two bed series feature an extra-wide tanning tunnel with armrests and variable footrests to ensure unlimited freedom of movement and relaxed posture. Temptronic settings maintain a constant temperature during the tanning session, while the available Aqua Mist & Aroma function creates a pleasing scent. Illuminated mood lights and an optional sound system with subwoofer, called 3D-Sound, complete the experience.

Ergoline plans to incorporate Dynamic Power technology in more beds in the future, but for now is utilizing the Prestige and Esprit series’ to introduce the technology to the United States tanning community.

“This new technology is the wave of the future,” Kreitz says. “With 25-percent more output per watt of energy input, Dynamic Power technology is energy-efficient and environmentally friendly, and it is sure to be adopted by salons wanting to maximize power throughout the entire life of an ultraviolet (UV) lamp.”
