EQUIPMENT

The Perfect Tan

American Quality Manufacturing, Inc. introduces two new VHR models to its existing 17-bed equipment lineup. According to the company, the Perfect Tan Wide Body all-steel VHR 34/3 and 38/3 is an oversized Octagonal Tunnel Technology design that offers salon owners a low-entry bed for unrestricted access for even the largest tanning clients.

SonnenBrune PRYZMA PROFILER

SonnenBrune, Inc. introduces the PRYZMA PROFILER. The integrated shoulder tanning system provides 360-degree lateral tanning and is found only in the PRYZMA 1048.

According to the company, it evenly tans the shoulder and neck area through four spaghetti tubes creating a total body tan. The PRYZMA is the newest in a line of luxury tanning beds offered by the company. It includes 44 reflector lamps, an adjustable facial system that is enhanced by Beauty Metic Glass, a built-in, double-acrylic airflow and heat exhaust system as well as a unique fiber-optic lightwave that creates a color sensation on the canopy.

Additionally, SonnenBrune introduces its newest economical commercial bed, the SonnenBrune EURO SERIES. The redesigned model has a rounded, sleek shell, contemporary logo and white detailing. The EURO SERIES provides a larger tanning surface and easy-to-clean acrylic in a 24-lamp configuration with an optional facial tanning system.

Super Wolff(r) Tanning Units

ETS, Inc. presents its newest tanning units---the Atlantis Series, Mega Vision Series and Ultra Galaxy Series--which feature the latest state-of-the-art German engineering advancements and provide the richest and darkest all-over tans, the company says.

The Atlantis Series offers 275 percent more tanning power than conventional beds and features a sophisticated Aircon system to keep the tanner and bed surface cool and comfortable with integrated air-conditioning and ventilation, says ETS. The series also features integrated side tanners and facial tanners for total body tanning.

According to the company, the Mega Vision Series offers more than 12,000 watts of tanning power, the Aircon system as well as the Controlled Power-System Integration that increases lamp life by 75 percent and reduces the cost and frequency of lamp replacement.

Additionally, the Ultra Galaxy offers a generously proportioned tanning environment that showers tanners with more than 15,000 watts of tanning power and features integrated side and facial tanners for total body tanning, says ETS. The Ultra Galaxy Series also features the Controlled Power-System Integration as well as an advanced Aircon system.

1998 SUNDASH-2 GENESIS SERIES

Sun Industries proudly introduces its 1998 Sundash-2 Genesis Series for the 1998 season. The new bed includes the new Genesis 120-watt Super Lamp, Cyber-tech HRF High Resolution Facial and Upper Body Intensifier and the Power Cell 1200 Milliamp Ballast.

In addition, the Genesis Series features the company's 500-pound capacity, works-in-a-drawer ballast box, easy-access fan panels and a patented easy-to-lift spring system that provides fingertip control. Additionally, all Sun Industries' tanning systems utilize Acrylite OP4 acrylic.

Four models are available in the Genesis Series including the Genesis 232GF, a 43-lamp bed that features 32, 120-watt Genesis lamps and 11 Sundash HRF lamps.

ProSun Introduces New Beds

New for the 1998 season, ProSun Tanning Industries, Inc. presents the ProSun 3000 and ProSun 3002.

The ProSun 3000 is equipped with 30 staggered lamps including 16 100-watt Goldarium SRs in the canopy and 14 100-watt Goldarium SRs in the bench. In addition, the unit comes with a standard foot fan, remote interface timer and aluminum-cast combi set and click-strip system on acrylics that makes for solid constructed tanning, says the company.

The ProSun 3002 also has 30 staggered lamps as well as two 400-watt high-pressure facial lamps. Additionally, one of ProSun's newest and largest beds, the ProSun 3002 offers a 76-inch by 28-inch tanning surface and remote interface timer.

puretan(r) Systems Sizzle for '98

puretan(r) International, Inc. presents its series of newly designed tanning equipment for the '98 season. The new lines include both VHO/R+ high-pressure integrated with low-pressure units and large high-pressure designs. Additionally, three new units have been added to puretan's lineup--the Nymesis, Astral-Ultra and the Ellipse III.

According to the company, the new Nymesis not only features an eye-catching design and colorful graphics but revolutionizes the tanning experience as well. Specifications include 51 lamps as well as high-pressure facial lamps. The Nymesis houses 21 Spectralarium R+ and 30 true 160-watt VHO/R+ lamps, totaling more than 12,000 watts of tanning power.

The Nymesis' brother, the Astral-Ultra, supports not only Spectralarium R+ lamps but puretan's newly designed 800-watt patented reflector high-pressure system that results in more than 21,600 watts of tanning power.

According to the company, the Ellipse III produces unsurpassable UV output by recontoured design, eliminating the need for extremely high UV "B" lamps. Additionally, the closeness of the canopy and complete encompassment of the client assure the ultimate tanning experience.

The Team SunSport Advantage

This season, SunSport introduces the Team SunSport Advantage. According to the company, SunSport can offer salon owners an advantage that cannot be beat. It begins with one of the finest high-pressure sunbeds in the world, the SunSport 2021, and then adds exclusive territory, unbeatable service, an unconditional buyback guarantee, European designed and U.S. manufactured machines as well as continuing support, says the company.

Introducing the Omega

QDM Co., Inc. expands its line of Dr. Mller equipment with the introduction of the Omega(r) 12 H-P VHP(r), a high-pressure tanning system with 24,000 watts of tanning power. The Omega joins the Orbit(r) 44/4 VHP(r) LV, an 11,000-watt medium-pressure unit and the Orbit(r) 44/4 VHP(r) CV, an 11,000-watt medium-pressure tanning system. In addition, the company offers the Speed(r)4000 VHP a 4,000-watt high-pressure facial tanner.

Both the Omega and Orbit units are available in Arctic White, Sunshine Yellow, Cabernet Red, Midnight Blue and Anthracite Grey with brushed lacquered steel tops and fronts.

The Colors of Money

PC Marketing/Montego Bay introduces its Tropical Series^TM tanning beds in bright and exotic colors including banana, orange, kiwi and lichee.

According to the company, the strategy behind the flashy design is to appeal to the psychology of the tanning customer who wants to feel and look sexy and healthy which these bright colors allow them to do.

The Tropical Series 32 GB and 41 U-P-P are 15-minute tanning beds with one offering high-pressure facials and the other offering Ultimate Premium Power facial lamps. In addition, the Tropical Series design includes the use of VLR^TM Reflector Lamps in both the canopy and lounge sections. The Tropical Series also is the first line of beds to use frosted acrylics to achieve better dispersion of UV light, says the company.

Although the Tropical Series are one-of-a-kind, the beds, like the Big Bear Superbeds^TM, Montego Bay^TM Wolff Systems and Montego Bay 10-minute beds, are constructed for many years of service. The Super Structure frame gives the bed a feeling of solidity, permanence and substance as well as an easy lift system, notes the company.

Tanning Shifts to Turbo Power

New for 1998, UltraSun introduces its new UltraSun 22,000 Turbo Power. According to the company, as a result of the newly developed Pigmalux-S Filter System, clients will obtain 50-percent more tanning power as well as tanning easily and comfortably.

Absolutely Perfect

Interlectric Corp. introduces the Absolute Sun Flex System 2800 tanning bed. According to the company, the 28-lamp bed is certified for 10 different lamps and four separate tanning times.

Additionally, salon owners can choose between two reflectors (3.0/7.0) and eight non-reflectors beginning with a 4.6/5.0 for 30 minutes, a 5.5/6.5/7.5 for 20 minutes or an 8.0 Phoenix and 8.5 for 15 minutes or the 9.5 Panther for 10-minute sessions.

Along with its peel-out, snap-in acrylic, the Absolute Sun Flex System 2800 is a 240-volt, 100-watt HO unit with springload sockets making lamp changes easy, says Interlectric. The unit houses six pressurized industrial fans that move heat directly out of the back of the unit. In addition, the canopy holds 16 Super Sun tanning lamps for maximum tanning results.

Newly Redesigned Sundazzler^TM

Heartland Tanning Supplies, Inc. introduces its cosmetically redesigned Sundazzler^TM tanning unit. According to the company, the new ergonomic body style offers a rounded booth and bold new graphics with a choice of Soft White or Midnight Black.

Each new unit includes the signature "S" Sundazzler emblem that not only is eye-catching, but also functions as the handle for unit entry. Additionally, the French or double-door design allows entry for clients of various shapes and sizes.

The proven internal engineering remains the same, giving the user a cooler tanning experience, says the company. Electrical components are housed in a separate ballast cart behind the unit and the staggered lamp design allows clients of all sizes a complete tan. Additionally, 46 Cosmolux(r) VHR^TM lamps power the Sundazzler and acrylic separates the user from the bulbs.

Klafsun/Sunrite Introduces New Beds

Klafsun/Sunrite presents two new and two returning beds for the 1998 season. The company introduces the Super Reflector Series--Galaxy Model and Centauri Model.

The Super Reflector Series-Galaxy Model is a 42-lamp, 160-watt luxury super bed with four dual facial canisters, an enormous tanning surface and cooling fans. According to the company, the bed also features a friendly control panel in the canopy that allows clients to utilize fans and facials at their own discretion.

The Super Reflector Series-Centauri Model is an individually hand-crafted 40-lamp luxury bed with easy connection to remote timers or computer interface. The bed offers a pull-out ballast drawer with castors for easy access to electrical components and 32 cooling fans.

Additionally, the com-pany welcomes two returning models--the Cosmos and PRO 3000 with PRO 3000 GS facial unit. The Cosmos is a hand-crafted, parabolic reflector, low-pressure bed that has an 83-inch tanning surface and 10 cooling fans. The PRO 3000 contains top-grade acrylics, as well as an easy-lift gas spring from Bansbach. In addition, the 30-lamp bed is available with or without the PRO 3000 GS facial unit.

Helios Offers Sportarredo Low-Pressure Beds

Helios Technologies, Inc. is importing Sportarredo low-pressure tanning beds that consists of the Olympic, Summer 75 and K52 models. According to the company, the Sportarredo line is designed to deliver a faster, darker and more luxurious tan.

The Olympic is equipped with 22 VHR lamps on the top, 22 VLR lamps on the bottom and four high-pressure facials. The Summer 75 is powered with 18 VHR lamps on the top, 18 VLR lamps on the bottom and four high-pressure facials. The K52 has 36 VHR lamps on the body and three high-pressure facials. Additionally, all three beds come equipped with a comfort control system and AM/FM cassette deck with optional CD player.

Relax in the SpaBed^TM

Aquatic Industries presents its new SpaBed^TM, which offers the combined benefits of heat, full-body flotation and massage to give clients a deep, soothing hydromassage without getting wet.

Fully clothed, the user floats comfortably on the pliant surface as heated water and air circulate through a series of rotating jets. Strategically aimed at key muscle groups, the jets provide the invigorating, rejuvenating massage that clients desire, says the company.

Stake Your Claim

TanAmerica announces it is adding a high-pressure facial tanner to its VIP Gold 3200 VHR unit. According to the company, the VIP Gold 3200 VHR unit offers "mega size" tanning results without rewiring the facility.

The unit will fit in any standard size tanning room and requires only a 30-amp breaker, notes the company. Standard features include air shower with air conditioning compatibility, built-in sound system, press-in and peel-out acrylics and TanAmerica's exclusive easy-lift mechanism.

A New Dimension

Aqua Float, Inc., now is distributing the SpaBed^TM by Aquatic, a dry hydrotherapy machine. The SpaBed is a self-contained, user-operated hydromassage unit that offers the combined benefits of heat, full-body flotation and massage.

According to the company, clients can get the effects of a personal masseuse and a hydrotherapy massage without any personal contact or getting wet. The fully clothed user floats comfortably on an 83-inch long by 30.5-inch wide surface that covers the water-filled SpaBed. The bed is a thermostatically heated body of water with a series of strategically placed jets, aimed at key muscle groups. Its convenient bedside electronic control and selector value allows the user to target specific muscle groups or select a full-body massage.

The World's Most Versatile Spa Machine

Sybaritic, Inc. presents the Alpha^TM 33, a versatile spa machine. According to the company, the Alpha 33 will enhance the effectiveness of spa treatments by providing adjustable heat, massage vibration and aromatherapy. Additionally, the machine features 10 pre-programmed treatment sessions including relaxation, weight loss, energy, pain relief, pre- and post-massage and skincare.

Ultrabronz America Debuts New Beds

Ultrabronz America presents its newest line of high- and low-pressure sunbeds. The Apollo, offered in two models, supplies up to 5,700 watts of tanning power in a more compact unit, while the Gemini's two wide body models offer up to 8,500 watts of tanning power. Both beds feature comfortably shaped head pillows, padded access strips, facial fans and integrated body cooling systems.

Additionally, Ultrabronz says its new Supernova HRO System Smart Bed^TM does not require a transformer and requires only 35 amps of steady current with a 60-amp breaker required. According to the company, a four-inch longer mattress ensures total tanning coverage while the cooler running lamp system and the large variable speed body cooling fan permits a cooler, more comfortable tanning session.

Additional features include easy-to-clean cobalt filters and drop-down acrylic panels, permanently affixed reflectors and a simple plug and socket lamp system, says the company.

Blue Dreams

New for the '98 tanning season, Dr. Kern introduces its BlueDream-Sun Surround 42/8 tanning unit.

The 42-lamp unit includes eight 400-watt high-pressure facials, 24 160-watt lamps in the canopy, optional air conditioning and shoulder tanners. In addition, all models are equipped with 220-volt contacts and additional interfaces are available.

LOTIONS

Swedish Beauty Spectrum Dark Tanning Emulsion

Swedish Beauty introduces its Spectrum Dark Tanning Emulsion, a new indoor accelerating lotion without the Swedish Beauty tingle, and Platinum, a potent indoor tanning accelerator.

According to the company, Spectrum provides exceptionally dark-tanning results with a synergistic combination of vitamins, botanical nutrients and the latest ingredients for modern technology. It contains avocado and babassu oils, aloe vera, ginseng, macadamia nut and coconut oils, tiare flower and natural vitamin E.

Platinum delivers powerful stimulation to epidermal microcirculation, vastly increasing melanin production, skin cell oxygenation and nutrition, notes the company. It contains natural vitamins, copper, botanical oils and a rare DNA restorative natural enzyme encapsulated in liposomes. Both Spectrum and Platinum are available in an 8-ounce bottle and the new 0.606-ounce packettes. Other products offered in the new 0.606-ounce sampling and resale packettes include Solarium Tanning Formulas A and S, Forman Tanning Enforcer, Melaplus, New Spectrum Dark Tanning Emulsion, New Platinum Accelerating Tanning Fluid, UV Repair and Sunless Tanning Lotion.

Additionally, Swedish Beauty introduces its Sun Capsulz Display, a high-quality point-of-sale counter display to retail the company's Accelerating Body Oil and Facial Oil, in encapsulated form. This display has been redesigned and has hinged, dome-covered wells to hold the Sun Capsulz. In addition, the whole unit is more attractive, with a higher-end and more elegant look, says Swedish Beauty.

The Signature Series

Body Drench presents its Signature Series WHIPPED CREME and Glistening Spray. According to the company, WHIPPED CREME spreads like satin while penetrating the skin with moisturizing milk proteins that help rebuild collagen. It includes vitamin E which stops lipids from oxidizing, two forms of vitamin C that remove radicals and minerals that help deeply tanned skin to maintain a smooth healthy feel while a unique complex preserves the biological equilibrium of the skin, says the company. WHIPPED CREME is made of whole leaf aloe, macadamia nut oil, kukui oil and green tea.

Additionally, Glistening Spray showers the skin with a luminous sheen after tanning to reveal the deepest, darkest tan imaginable, says Body Drench. The drenching spray incorporates milk protein deep hydrators combined in a specialized ingredient complex to provide long-lasting moisture to tanned skin.

The Ignition Zone

IST Laboratories introduces Grease, a super-hydrating grease with industrial strength tanning technology that is ideal for beginners who desire immediate, lasting tanning results.

According to the company, the ultra-rich emulsion drenches skin with hydrating tanning ingredients including industrial sheen complex^TM that improves skin cell translucency to increase UV light penetration to the melanocyte cells triggering melanin production and fuconol^TM that restricts the activation of bacteria that can cause the unpleasant "after-tan" odor. Additionally, Grease's smooth consistency quickly dissolves into the skin and is made with refreshing, vibrant scents to create an exhilarating, dynamic tanning experience, says IST.

Turn Up the Profits for '98

Just in time for the new tanning season, Supre introduces Mega Vibe, the newest addition to the Vibe family of products. According to the company, Mega Vibe increases the active ingredients found in Vibe lotion and Vibe oil as well as adds more unipertan to give clients a darker tan.

Also new for the '98 season is the release of .075-ounce packettes of Vibe lotion, Mega Vibe lotion and Sun Recover. A new counter display also is available that features eight each of the new packettes and eight each of Rayz, Extreme and Jam lotions. Another new counter display will feature two each of Supre's tanning products, Sun Recover and a 16-ounce Skin System Moisturizing Tester that will allow customers to try the product while in the salon.

In addition, while quantities last, the company is making available Vibe 6 Packs so that salon owners can try the Vibe products without having to invest in case quantities, says the company.

HP2000 Unveils New Moisturizer

HP2000 introduces its Melanin Enhancing Moisturizer to it product line that includes Tan Maximizing Lotion, Super Dry Body Oil, Facial Booster and Hpwear.

According to the company, all of its products are manufactured with all-natural ingredients with a threefold tanning plan to accelerate, protect and moisturize the skin. Additionally, products have been made with pure L-tyrosine with specific amino acids, vitamins and proteins and a special Alpha Hydroxy Formula to help smooth the skin and reduce the appearance of fine line and wrinkles, notes HP2000.

Experience a Touch of Bali

The native, tropical ways of tanning have arrived on mainland shores with Touch of Bali--a new tanning line inspired by the sun-basking traditions of the exotic islands of the Pacific.

Made with the recently developed KukuaTan Complex^TM, Touch of Bali products offer a blend of exotic herbs and botanicals as well as sea and fruit extracts. According to the company, KukuaTan Complex is the first in professional tanning lines to combine western tanning technology with the eastern properties of ancient ginseng and monoi oil.

The line includes Fiery Red Ginger Lotion, Java Gelee, Ruby Red Banana Sheer Spray Lotion, Bamboo Tanning Mud, Mahakanni Self-Tanner Lotion, Kava Bronzer Instant Bronzing Gel and Vanilla Bean Daily Moisturizer.

Caribbean Gold(r) introduces Flash^TM Professional Tanning Formula. According to the company, Flash is a rich lotion formulated with emollients and natural extracts to moisturize and condition the skin and includes the company's exclusive Vitasome Complex^TM that provides protection and nourishing antioxidants.

Enriched with an advanced StimuTan Complex(r) blend, the advanced lotion invigorates the skin, effectively preparing it for maximum tanning power to provide a skin-tingling, bold tanning experience, says Caribbean Gold.

Three Steps to an Xceptional Tan

Professional Tan Distributors introduces its three steps to an exceptional tan for 1998 including Xcess^TM, Xceed^TM and Xtra^TM Step. According to the company, the process begins with Xcess Professional Tanning Formula that combines cold-pressed botanical complexes with natural vitamins and minerals to stimulate epidermal circulation for maximum tanning results.

Next, indulge your skin with Xceed Professional Strength Tan Optimizer. A combination of rare and exotic herbal botanical complexes, along with maximum levels of active tanning ingredients that bolster the skin's barrier layer to allow for maximum tanning results, notes Professional Tan.

Last, Xtra Step Moisturizing Body Cream's exclusive botanical extract complex offers moisturizing support to dry, irritated skin. Formulated with soothing calendual, refreshing orange flower, calming yarrow and replenishing elder flower, Xtra hydrates even the driest skin, says the company.

New from Australian Gold(r)

Australian Gold(r) introduces a number of new products for 1998 including HOT Salsa^TM Tanning Cream and Complex, Golden Tanning Crystals^TM and Australian Gold Lip Guard.

According to the company, Hot Salsa Tanning Cream and Complex formula provides a unique skin-stimulating tanning experience for dark, dramatic results. The rich tanning cream is fortified with an exclusive blend of moisturizing, nourishing and protective antioxidant vitamins for a radiant tan. Mineral-rich native oils condition the skin and prepare it for optimum UV exposure and pure natural extracts awaken and invigorate to provide an uncommon tanning experience and natural-looking after-tan glow, says the company.

Australian Gold Golden Tanning Crystals^TM deluxe tanning formula rewards a tanner's skin with a botanical and moisture-rich formula enriched with antioxidant vitamins, says Australian Gold. The formula features golden flakes suspended in a rich aloe gel that melt into the skin and drench it with moisturizing emollients and rare natural plant extracts. In addition, each crystal flake contains pure extracts of coconut oil and monoi de Tahiti, a centuries-old Tahitian blend renowned for its moisturizing and skin-conditioning capabilities.

Targeting tanning consumers with sensitive skin and those who don't want the traditional tropical fragrances of tanning lotions, Sunlight introduces three new unfragranced, hypoallergenic tanning products including Develop Tanning Gel, Paradox Tanning Mousse and Surpass Moisturizer.

The Sunlight Hypoallergenic tanning line uses the powerful complex of ingredients in VITATAN^TM for Develop and CuO2 tanning technology for Paradox that supplement skin with essential elements to help achieve a dark tan. Surpass also provides hydrating properties to help prolong the duration and appearance of a tan, says Sunlight.

Island Heat

MOST Products introduces its Island Heat S.H.O. Mousse and Island Heat Moisturizer.

Island Heat S.H.O. Mousse is a mousse delivery system based on the company's popular S.H.O. Lotion. According to the company, the mousse contains highly concentrated levels of powerful, invigorating oils blended with protovanol, ATP and soluble tyrosine.

The company's Island Heat Moisturizer is a vitamin-rich alphahydroxy and aloe-based lotion with Omega-6 oils that replenish essential moisture and nutrients lost during tanning. According to the company, Omega-6 oils are the building blocks for the water barrier function of the skin's top layer, which are not naturally present in the skin.

Power Tan 1998

Power Tan introduces its new super bed bottles packaging line for 1998. The new packaging includes Red Onyx, Black Onyx and Black Onyx Magic. All three lotions contain a before tan accelerator and an after tan accelerator moisturizer.

The products contain L-tyrosine to help stimulate melanin, vitamin A, C and E, alpha hydroxy acids to rehydrate and help repair dry skin, and pycnogenal to help prevent wrinkles, the company states.

Power Tan also introduces Hydroactive, the world's first after-tanning accelerator and Power Tan Singles---6-ounce tubes of Kick Start, Jump Start, Black Onyx, Red Onyx and an Hydroactive After Tan Accelerator/Moisturizer. In addition, the company presents three new lines--a sunless tanning line, an outdoor tanning line and Raindrops, a high-tech spa line.

The sunless tan line includes Self Action Facial Tanner with SPF 15 and Self Action with Bronzer, a combination sunless tanner and bronzer. The outdoor tanning line includes an SPF 4, 15 and 30, all waterproof formulas and a greaseless, dry, oil-free formula with no SPF as well as the Hydroactive After Tan Accelerator/Moisturizer.

Intensify the Tanning Effects of Butter

California Tan introduces two new intensifiers based on its all-time best-seller Butter. According to the company, Hot Action Butter is the first tanning lotion in California Tan's line to energize skin with a skin-stimulating complex. New Melted Butter is the first ultra-light, dry-oil spray in the company's line that helps achieve rich, dark tanning results, adds California Tan.

Hot Action Butter's primary distinguishing feature is its hot action complex that works deep within the epidermis for an immediate skin sensation. Hot Action Butter contains the exclusive CuO² technology that contains advanced skincare extracts to hydrate skin with rich, moisturizing ingredients to help achieve a dark tan.

Melted Butter also contains the CuO² technology, as well as the unique biosaccharide complex that provides additional moisture and protection from what is commonly known as the "after-tan" odor.
