Two business owners in Grand Rapids, Mich., are so enthused about the benefits of vitamin D, they’ve named their new salon “Vitamin D Tanning.” The downtown hot spot will celebrate a ceremonial ribbon-cutting on January 4, 2010, officiated by Commissioner Rosalynn Bliss. The occasion marks the area’s first storefront business opening of 2010. Owners Jeff and Tammy Rider will be celebrating the opening of their specialty salon with prizes and giveaways. The salon features 10 rooms currently offering 7 tanning beds and 2 stand-ups with levels 1 and 2 tanning. “We want to promote the positive effects of tanning and the benefit of vitamin D,” Tammy shares. To do so, the salon will focus on educating its clients on how vitamin D obtained through tanning can help people live healthier lives. Some of the benefits include preventing certain cancers, balancing serotonin and melatonin for better sleep, and aiding in the prevention of osteoporosis onset. The Riders are both downtown employees of Blue Cross Blue Shield, making the new salon’s location a no-brainer, as they love the area. They anticipate garnering the business of many professionals who are in the vicinity daily for work. To track their progress or find more information, visit www.vitamindtanning.com.
